Cleaning the Copper Electrode Always polish the copper electrode ring whenever the electrode is: 1. Exposed to the atmosphere for more than a week (oxide/tarnish buildup occurs on new or out of service systems). 2. Used for about 12 months of normal operation (electrode usually oxidizes/tarnishes enough during this period to degrade measurement performance). 3. Acquires a precipitate buildup due to sample characteristics such as high calcium. Do not use any commercial abrasive cleaning powders or liquid, as they contain chlorine and will leave a residual coating that will adversely affect system performance. If the copper electrode ring is excessively scratched or has an uneven surface, it should be replaced. |
