Dilution Panel for Chlorine Analyzers Introduction

The FX-1000p can be used to measure very high ranges of chlorine residuals due to its continuous amperometric test method. The factory recommended maximum for undiluted sample is 100 ppm. The only limiting factor is the longevity of the measuring cell at high chlorine residuals. Typically, high chlorine residuals erode the copper electrode at an accelerated rate, especially in aggressive sample waters. The copper electrode is designed to be a replaceable part, as it will naturally erode over time, which keeps a clean surface in contact with the sample at all times.

For ranges higher than 100 ppm, a continuous fixed dilution of the sample is recommended. This can be attained by using the FX-1000p Dilution Ratio Panel. The dilution panel uses 1 fixed orifice (dilution water) and a sample pump (high residual). The fixed orifice and a small amount of sample pumped from the sample pump is sent to the mixing chamber. A carbon filter is utilized to de-chlorinate this dilution water source (it should be changed at regular intervals to prevent chlorine "bleed-through"). The mixture of the flows are mixed in a mixing chamber then sent to the chlorine residual analyzer, which then only "sees" a much lower range of chlorine, while the actual sample is much higher.

Dilution Panel Location and Mounting

Anchor securely to a wall with the sample line position as shown below. Mount dilution panel slightly to the left of the FX-1000 Chlorine Analyzer. Be sure the sample line runs up hill to prevent air traps.

Ensure that the water sample and dilution water line is capable of delivering a continuous flow between 150 and 2000 ml per minute to the sample valve a approximately 15 psi. If pressure exceeds 50 psi, use and auxiliary water pressure reducing valve. If controlling chlorine automatically, increase the flow to the sample cell to reduce the water sample transport time (or better Lag Time).

Important
This non-metallic enclosure does not automatically provide grounding between the conduit connections. Grounding must be provided as part of the installation.

Important
The electronic enclosure is not a junction box and should not have any other wiring running through it.

Important
A GFCI (ground fault circuit interrupter) should be installed as part of the electrical system.
